Teachers and administrators engage in negotiations about contracts and salaries.
Negotiations between the Beverly Hills Education Association and the Beverly Hills Unified School District are progressing slowly, hindered by leadership changes. Teachers are anxious for contract resolutions before the academic year ends on May 30, 2025, as talks have only seen one discussion session every two weeks. With concerns over salary clarity for the coming school year, both sides are hoping to reach an agreement before summer arrives amid administrative cuts and community concerns.
Beverly Hills, a city known for its glamor, is now catching the attention of many as the ongoing negotiations between the Beverly Hills Education Association (BHEA) and the Beverly Hills Unified School District (BHUSD) seem to be moving at a crawl. Teachers who educate our beloved future stars are anxiously awaiting the results of these talks, hoping for resolutions before the year wraps up.
The BHEA, which proudly represents the voice of public school teachers in Beverly Hills, is hoping to finalize contracts with the BHUSD by the end of the school year to avoid any *hair-pulling* summer negotiations. Time is of the essence! With the academic year concluding on May 30, 2025, teachers are eager to have clarity regarding their contracts, especially concerning their salaries moving into the 2025-2026 school year.
Katherine Warren, the president of BHEA, believes that while *some* progress is being made, the pace of negotiations is far from satisfactory. Originally, talks were slated to kick off in August 2024 but were postponed due to the BHUSD school board election held in November. So, after much anticipation, negotiations officially launched in January 2025 but have hit a few bumps along the way.
Delays in contract talks have been significantly affected by leadership changes within the district. In a shocking move, Superintendent Dr. Michael Bregy resigned on February 21, 2025. Adding to the turbulence, Matt Horvath, the assistant superintendent of personnel services and the lead negotiator for the district, lost his position during a restructuring process announced on March 11, 2025. All this uncertainty has undoubtedly weighed heavy on the minds of teachers.
Interim Superintendent Dr. Jason Hasty has expressed that the district is also keen to reach an agreement before the summer arrives. Despite the delays, he remains optimistic about working collaboratively toward solutions that everyone can agree upon.
